Appliance Recycling Collection Drive Raises Money for Local Nonprofit and High School Scholarship Fund
On Saturday, November 17, Spence Farm hosted an Appliance Recycling Collection Drive allowing residents of Woburn and the surrounding communities to drop off their unwanted appliances for a minimal cost. The event was quite successful as numerous people dropped off their appliances and many volunteers came out to help lift appliances and greet people who arrived to recycle.
These collection drives are hosted a few times a year and proceeds go to local nonprofits as well as a scholarship fund for a Woburn High School graduating senior that will be continuing their education in the field of environmental science. The next collection drive will be on Saturday, March 16 from 9am to 1pm.
This drive helped raise money to support projects and programs for Social Capital Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting citizens to strengthen communities. Volunteers came from Woburn and the surrounding communities to help make this event a smashing success! Thanks to Paul & Lori Medeiros, Kathy Bailey, Spence Farm and all the wonderful volunteers, a total of $1,637 was raised with $200 going to the high school scholarship fund and $1,437 raised for SCI.
A special thank you to the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn who sent several youth volunteers to help out at this event. Thank you to Fuel the Gym, a local gym and nutritional health store in Woburn, for helping out with this event, and thank you to the numerous individuals and families from Woburn and the surrounding communities that took time out of their weekends to support this cause.
Founded in 2002, the mission of SCI is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. We envision a nation where individuals are strongly connected to their neighbors and play an active role in shaping the destiny of their communities. This increase in ‘social capital’ will result in communities that are safer, healthier and more vital. . For more information about SCI please visit sciwoburn.org or socialcapitalinc.org .
