Woburn Elememtary School fourth grade Children will  be singing the following song during their Christmas /Holiday Show.  I'm not sure why school children or teachers should be rejoicing and embracing this theme.

                                         Ujamaa

" Ujamaa means we should create

Our own Stores and Shops and Businesses

Don't only buy, start to produce

In the end, my friend, you'll have success"

                                        (three times)

Ujamaa is on of the 7 principal or themes of Kwanzaa Developed by Maulana Karenga (Born Ronald McKinley Everett). Ujamaa sugguests that black people should only patronize black owned businesses.

"The Fourth Principle is Ujamaa and is essentially a commitment to the practice of shared social wealth and the work necessary to achieve it. It grows out of the fundamental communal concept that social wealth belongs to the masses of people who created it and that no one should have such an unequal amount of wealth that it gives him/her the capacity to impose unequal, exploitative or oppressive relations on others (41). Sharing wealth is another form of communitarian exchange, i.e., sharing and cooperating in general. But it is essential because without the principle and practice of shared wealth, the social conditions for exploitation, oppression and inequality as well as deprivation and suffering are increased."

(From Wikipedia)"In 1971, Karenga "was sentenced to one to ten years in prison on counts of felonious assault and false imprisonment". One of the victims gave testimony of how Karenga and other men tortured her and another woman. The woman claimed to have been stripped and beaten with an electrical cord. Karenga's former wife, Brenda Lorraine Karenga, testified that he sat on the other woman’s stomach while another man forced water into her mouth through a hose."
