LOCAL WOMAN TO PROSPER COMPASSION IN THE AILING DANCE MARKET
It is no secret that the dance industry is grueling and filled with angst. Elizabeth Dunn of Melrose has competed in many competitions and has gone out for many auditions. She says, “The criticism I received was not about my technique, it was all about my height and weight.” She took comments to heart, and always worried about her weight, although there was nothing she could do about her 5’2” frame. The 22 year old will be fighting to re-establish purity and passion for the art by opening her own dance competition company, Shine On Performing Arts Competition.
Dunn of Melrose is a dreamer. She’s dreamed of growing up and becoming a professional dancer across many genres of dance. However, as she got older, she has become determined to answer a new calling. When she started investing her time into teaching her talents to the next generation, she realized just how much the industry veered away from the art of dance and has scarred each and every student she had the pleasure of working with. As time went on the Dunn became increasingly determined to fight the system.
Dunn is starting Shine On to reintroduce the importance of embracing the art, and mastering dance techniques. Criticism cannot be made on a participant’s height, weight, or overall physical appearance. Dunn is determined to bring her passion for dance back into the cold, and unforgiving industry. Most importantly, she wishes to enlighten the next generation and promote self-confidence and perseverance.
