SCI is Joined in Woburn by Six New AmeriCorps Members

Social Capital Inc, a Woburn-based nonprofit, has recently been joined by a new group of AmeriCorps Members.  These new members have been placed throughout the Woburn community, filling roles in several different organizations. 

Candice McLaughlin is serving as an Outreach and Technology Coordinator for the SCI Woburn office.  She manages the "Week in Woburn" eNews, serves as webmaster for the SCI Woburn website, operates various web technologies for additional SCI sites and recruits volunteers for community events.  She has a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Political Science and a M.Ed in Community Engagement from Merrimack College.

 Annie Laurie Medonis is serving as an Outreach and Technology Coordinator for the North Suburban YMCA. She recruits and coordinates volunteers for various events at the Y as well as publicizes those events. She graduated from Grand Valley State University with a B.A. in Broadcasting and a minor in German. Annie has traveled all the way from Michigan to serve in Woburn.

 Leigh Wilmot is serving as an Outreach and Technology Coordinator for NuPath, Inc. She will be spending her ten months of service recruiting volunteers for NuPath events such as an Autism Awareness Walk. Leigh attended Roger Williams University and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science with minors in Economics and Legal Studies.

 Ashley Napear is serving as a Youth Leadership Coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club for her second term of service with AmeriCorps. She will be co-advising the Woburn Youth Council and running a service learning club for elementary school children. Ashley attended SUNY Plattsburgh in New York and graduated with a B.A in Criminal Justice. She also has an A.S. in Recreation Parks and Leisure Studies. Ashley has traveled from Virginia to serve in Woburn.

 Yekaterina (Kate) Filippova is serving as a Youth Leadership Coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club. She will be running a few programs at the club as well as co-supervising the Woburn Youth Council and the Torch Club. Yekaterina is originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, but later moved to New York City as a teenager. She attended University of Massachusetts Dartmouth where she received a B.A. in History and Art History and Andover Newton Theological School where she received a M.A. in Theological Research.

 Dorothy Gannon is serving as a Youth Leadership Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn and will be running an afterschool program at the Joyce Middle School. Dorothy previously served as an AmeriCorps member with a victim assistance program in Keene, NH. She attended New England College and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science. Dorothy has traveled from Rhode Island to serve in Woburn.

 Founded in 2002, the mission of SCI is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. We envision a nation where individuals are strongly connected to their neighbors and play an active role in shaping the destiny of their communities.
