WPD Officer Jack Maguire Honored For Service
From the Middlesex District Attorney's office:
In honor of his exemplary service to the protection of the citizens of Middlesex County, late Woburn Police Officer John “Jack” Maguire was honored posthumously with the September 11th award which was presented to his wife, Desiree Maguire, at a ceremony in Woburn, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone announced Dec. 14.
The September 11th award is earned by first responders in Middlesex County who demonstrate extraordinary courage, bravery and/or selflessness in a way that is reminiscent of the men and women of law enforcement who were the first to respond on September 11, 2001.
Officer Maguire was honored with the September 11th award after he was fatally shot in the line of duty after being the first responder to an armed robbery at a Kohl’s department store on December 26, 2010.
“Officer Jack Maguire made the ultimate sacrifice when he ran into harms way in order to stop an armed robber from escaping, protecting all of us as a result,” District Attorney Leone said. “It is with a heavy heart that we honor Jack with this award and recognize his commitment to public service to the Commonwealth.”
The annual Middlesex District Attorney’s Awards Ceremony was held on December 8 at Woburn Memorial High School in Woburn. The office has a proud legacy of exemplary service to the people of Middlesex County, and the series of awards are named in honor of many of the former members of the office.
