5T: Mayor Delivers State of the City Address Tonight

Make sure to check in with today's column of news, events, history and more.

Here are five things you need to know today in Woburn:

1) Back to school!

All right, kids, it's back to school time! You've had a week off to celebrate with friends and family, and now it's back to work. Pack up your books, throw on those fancy new duds from Santa, and get to school! (But, don't worry, you'll get a break next week. The next half-day is Jan. 11.)

2) State of the City

Mayor Scott Galvin will be delivering the State of the City Address tonight at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. If you want to see the speech, head over to City Hall tonight. Then stick around for the regular City Council meeting. Public hearings are expected on special permit requests, as well as changing the zoning designation of the former Armory.

    3) Stilly chilly

According to the National Weather Service's pinpointed forecast for Woburn, it going to remain frigid in Woburn today. Expect temperatures to stay in the 20s before it goes as low as 8 degrees tonight! We'll have some wind too... Stay warm!

    4) In case you missed it

With the holiday yesterday, we thought we'd take a look back at businesses in Woburn. We asked you: What Woburn Business Were You Sad to See Close in 2012? Answer here!

    5) Historic Headline

Let's take a walk through Woburn's history, shall we? A headline in the newspaper regarding Jan. 2 events in Woburn was:

    • 1925—General Alarm Fire in Woburn—Firefighters battle a blaze at the First Baptist Church at Pleasant Park and Winn Street.

What is the zoning change for the Armory? something needs to be done there. Is the building even safe to enter?
