Parts of Winn Street closed, causing traffic problems.
Woburn Fire is battling a two-alarm blaze at 43 Franklin St. this afternoon.
The emergency response to the fire has shut down parts of Winn Street, from Harrison Avenue past Franklin Street. Police are reporting problems with traffic in the area.
The call came in shortly before 3 p.m., with reports of fire in a Franklin Street attic.
According to reports, heavy smoke was showing from the roof of the home when Woburn Fire arrived.
Fire Capt. Donald Kenton immediately struck a second alarm for the blaze, calling for mutual aid from Burlington Fire. Three WFD trucks, one ambulance and one Burlington BFD truck is on scene as of 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. Wilmington Fire is covering for WFD from the firehouse.
Firefighters inside reported heavy fire in the home, and working on the chimney extinguish fire.
Firefighters report 43 Franklin St. is a two-and-a-half-level woodframe home.
As of 3:30 p.m., firefighters were venting the roof of the home and smoke was seen coming out of a second-floor window. The gas company was on scene and had shut off utilities to the residence.
After approximately 45 minutes on scene, reports stated that the fire was knocked down.
At 4 p.m., Capt. Kenton released a Burlington Fire unit back to its town. Firefighters will remain on scene "for awhile," said the captain, as WFD is facing extensive overhaul after the fire.
