Candidate Announcement: Michael Raymond

Candidate for City Council Alderman.

The following text was provided by the candidate as an election announcement.

It is with the enthusiastic support of my family and friends that I announce my candidacy for re-election for Alderman of Ward 6.

The trying economic times we are facing demand experience, and having served three terms I have the experience necessary to help the City of Woburn continue to be an example for other cities and towns to follow. Despite the economic downturn and during my tenure as Alderman of Ward 6, North Woburn has seen major quality of life improvements. My pledge to you, with your support will be to continue to work with all City Departments to insure that these improvements continue.

Over the past several years I have proven to be a strong proponent for the City of Woburn to become a Green Community. I have sponsored a Wind Energy Ordinance, co-sponsored a Stretch Energy Ordinance to the municipal code, re-established the Bio-Level Safety Committee and have worked to secure open space throughout the City. My latest Green Community action is the sponsoring of the Solar Overlay District Zoning Ordinance for the Woburn Landfill. Having been involved in the closing of the landfill to the present, I have taken the initiative to attend workshops to assist our City with the tools to harness state renewable energy incentives. The Solar Overlay District will allow the City of Woburn to lease the 40 acre site to a solar energy provider, who will in turn create one of the region’s most productive solar farms with potential savings for our City.

I created a street grading system for Ward 6. This system is used to grade the condition of every streetin North Woburn. The system is updated on a yearly basis and presented to the Mayor to review and use as a guide prior to the disposition of Chapter 90 funds that the City receives from the State for road repair and upgrade.

In my continued foresight in preserving and protecting our Historical Treasures, I sponsored a Minimum Maintenance Ordinance for Historic buildings. This ordinance will insure that Historical properties will not enter into disrepair.

For a complete list of on-going projects, updates and my accomplishments, please visit my website www.aldermanward6.com. Along with my website, and for those residents who do not have computer access, I publish a bi-monthly newsletter and conduct Neighborhood Meetings each month at the Thompson Library for discussion of on-going and up-coming projects.

It is an honor and privilege to serve you as Alderman of Ward 6. This opportunity has allowed me to work on issues that we all care about in our community. I will continue to keep in the forefront on every City Council decision I make the residents of Woburn who live on a fixed income.

As Alderman of Ward 6 I believe that I have made and will continue to make significant progress onissues that directly affect the quality of life for the residents of North Woburn. North Woburn needs an experienced, strong, committed voice on the City Council and I want to continue to provide that voice for you. With this in mind, I ask for your support as I run for re-election. I look forward to walking our ward and meeting with you to listen to your concerns and discuss current and future issues.
