Woburn and State Police are still investigating Tuesday's serious pedestrian accident near Leland Park.
The 88-year-old Winchester man who hit a pedestrian with his vehicle Tuesday night could still be charged in the incident, according to Woburn Police.
WPD Det. Ralph Coakley said Friday that the Mass State Police and Woburn Police are still investigating the crash that sent a 31-year-old man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
"No charges [have been filed] as of yet, but that is certainly not finite," said Det. Coakley.
Woburn Police already filed an "immediate threat" with the Registry of Motor Vehicles after the crash. According to the RMV, the charge indicates that authorities believe the driver's "operation of a motor vehicle poses an immediate threat to public safety."
The 31-year-old Arlington Road man was crossing the street at Washington and Erie Tuesday night around 8 p.m. when he was struck by the car. The man had just left Pop Warner football practice with his son when the crash occurred.
According to the police department sketch of the accident, the man was struck on the northbound side of the road and was thrown into the southbound lane several feet further down Washington Street.
According to a Mass General Hospital spokesman, the man is still in "serious" condition. The website Wikipedia defines "serious" condition as: "Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable."

If only a family member of this 90 year old man had realized that his "operation of a motor vehicle posed an immediate threat to public safety" and got him off the road the tragedy he is responsible for would have been prevented. This person obviously had no business being behind the wheel and he needs to be held accountable for what he has done

how many times does an accident like this need to happen before the politicians will listen to someone other than AARP when it comes to passing safety laws. What is wrong with asking everyone to take a driving test every 5 years after 50? My heart goes out to that little boy who watched his father get hit, and the family of that man. Prayers and thoughts.

I'm sorry but 50 is to young I think at 70 they should do it unless your doctor thinks you need it before!!! as for this man he will not be charge wich makes me mad cause in winchester its all about money and who you know WE WILL SEE !!!!

At some point in time, the politicians need to get the courage up to pass the necessary regulations for automatic re-testing after the age of 70. These types of tragedies are becoming more frequent. Also family members should begin to recognize how capable their loved ones are to be driving. Any driving school will offer an evaluation for a fee.

I still can't believe this has happened to my cousin. How fast was the guy driving because the injuries Allen a sustained are crazy!! When my Aunt was telling me about his injuries it sounded like he got hit by a Mac truck.. he's in a medical coma w an amazing amount of injuries. I just pray he makes it through this he is a fighter. His son is doing as well as can be expected he's spent allot of time sitting and holding his daddy's hand.

Sadly, Alan passed yesterday afternoon from his injuries. He was my nephew and he will be missed. It seems so unfair for such a young father, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, should be killed so senslessly. The police should charge this driver right away.
