The Canton-based company is lobbying the White House to changes its definition of full-time work from 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, according to reports.
Canton-based Dunkin' Brands has joined the fight against Obamacare.
The coffee and baked goods company is working to overturn a major provision of Obamacare, according to a Newsmax.com report this week.
Specifically, Dunkin' is lobbying the White House to change its definition of full-time work from at least 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, CEO Nigel Travis told the Financial Times, according to The Huffington Post.
The change would leave Dunkin', as well as other companies, with fewer workers to insure under the health care reform law, which requires large employers to provide health coverage to all full-time workers and their dependents. Those companies who fail to provide coverage could face a penalty of $2,000 per worker. The mandate applies to every company with 50 or more full-time employees.

You know a lot of other companies are watching the outcome here, If Dunkins wins, they will all follow suit. There will be thousands of workers who suddenly wake up to no health care insurance. Sad state of affairs. Big money always wins.

I agree. Instead of fighting the system and not honoring the hard work their employees put in...low wages, etc. They deserve the health care. It will make me think twice about Dunkin Donuts vs other local donut/coffee shops.

Interesting because every Dunkin-esque job (McDonald's and Wal-Mart as a teen) I've ever worked has called "full-time" 40 hours per week and schedule you as such, but make you punch out for an hour lunch, making it an on-the-books 35 hour work week.
I wonder if the 30 hour vs. 40 hour was built-in as a way to protect persons in such a position and I wonder if the "stand" Dunkins is taking is to screw those people. If so, shame on you Dunkins...

There will be very few actual full time jobs by the time Obamacare fully rears it's ugly head. When you are taxed on your healthcare making it hit working families again and forcing them to suffer more people will understand. Hope, Change and Forward was only for the rich, celebrities and the frauds.

Or are you just bitter? These people deserve healthcare. And big money is doing everything they can to deny them.
