Farmers’ Market Opens Successfully Sunday
June 5 marked the beginning of the season for the Woburn Farmers’ Market at Spence Farm.
Fresh fruits and veggies, jewelry and crafts, soaps, flowers, fish and lobster, breads and pastries, honey and jams, beef, coffee and even some home-made candles. Where can you get all this fresh, locally-made products? It has to be the Woburn Farmers’ Market staring a year of communal creativity and engaging eatables.
"It has been a phenomenal success," said coordinator Paul Mederios. "A lot of people from Woburn and all around have come out to support us."
Between the market's opening at 9 a.m. and its close at 1 p.m., hundreds of locals made the trek down Wyman Street and into the expansive Spence Farm. Mederios and his staff of a dozen volunteers welcomed guests, ran the hayrides, orchestrated the mini-horse petting zoo and even backed a band that treated guests to some classic rock hits.
Mayor Scott Galvin popped in to the market and told Woburn Patch: "It has been a great turn out and I'm looking forward to the rest of the summer and more vendors, especially produce."
Volunteers and several local eateries explained that many summer time crops simply haven't come in yet, so fresh produce was limited. Mederios and the other coordinators guaranteed that as the season progresses, so will the supply of fresh vegetables and fruits.
State Rep. Jim Dywer also swung by the market and said, "This looks like a great start. The city and folks here have made the market a win-win for everybody and the vendors and volunteers are very courteous ... This is a great community event."
The next Woburn Farmer's Market will be June 12th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 41 Wyman St.—Spence Farm—and every Sunday until the end of October.

We stopped in and bought some handmade soaps. I'm glad to see the Farmer's Market start off so successfully! Hoping to see even more vendors added with more locally grown produce.

A lot of people put much effort into establishing this farmer's market. I enjoyed it very much. I plan to go every week and will tell my friends.

I'm really happy about the farmer's market. We went almost every week to the winchester one last year. Would be nice to see a follow-up article on Spence Farms. What are the plans for it? It would be nice to see a co-op garden like they have in Waltham.
