Firefighters Battled Two-Alarm Blaze Monday

Main Street shut down in both directions for 80 minutes.

 

 

UPDATED, 3:43 p.m. — Traffic is now flowing in both directions on Main Street.

UPDATED, 3:38 p.m. — Woburn Police have reopened traffic on Main Street in the northbound lane. 

UPDATED, 2:49 p.m. — The two-alarm fire at 528 Main Street has been "mostly" knocked down, reports Woburn Fire.

Firefighters on scene are reporting that the fire has been contained, and they are taking down the ceiling to fully extinguish the blaze.

Traffic on Main Street, as well as the side roads, is stopped with police officers detouring vehicles at Salem Street and Kilby Street.

UPDATED, 2:38 p.m. — Woburn Fire reporting there is fire in the ceiling and has requested additional companies through mutual aid.

Stoneham, Reading and Burlington firefighters are assisting with calls and the fire.

UPDATED, 2:28 p.m. — Traffic on Main Street is being diverted in both directions, report Woburn Police. The road is closed between Salem and Kilby Street until the fire is under control.

Monday, 2:25 p.m. — Woburn Police and Fire responded to 528 Main St. for a report of a house fire Monday afternoon at 2:20 p.m. Just moments after responding, Woburn Fire struck a second alarm for the blaze.

When police arrived, a man was using a garden hose on the fire, pointing it at the roofline.

Woburn Fire reported fire in the home with heavy smoke showing at 2:22 p.m.

Traffic was halted on Main Street at Kilby Street, said police.
