Firehouse Subs Set to Open in Woburn

The casual-dining restaurant started by former firefighters will open on Commerce Way.

A casual dining restaurant that was founded by former firefighters and that does much to support fire and police is set to open in Woburn.

Emily Oliver of The Zimmerman Agency, the public relations company for Firehouse Subs, said the restaurant will be opening at 103 Commerce Way, Suite C1, sometime in late March.

This will be the third Firehouse Subs in Massachusetts. Currently the company has locations in Danvers and in Copley Square in Boston.

According to the restaurant, Firehouse Subs is a fast casual restaurant chain that has a "passion for hearty and flavorful food, heartfelt service and public safety."

The restaurant was founded in Florida by former firefighters and brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen about 18 years ago. Now the chain has nearly 600 locations in 33 sites and Puerto Rico, according to the restaurant's web site.

The brothers never forgot their roots in firefighting. According to a release, in 2005, Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), Firehouse Subs has given $5.7 million to hometown heroes in 36 states and Puerto Rico, including more than $10,780 in Massachusetts.

Locally, as reported on Danvers Patch, Firehouse Subs granted Danvers firefighters a $10,777 grant in July of 2012.

According to the restaurant's web site, the food at Firehouse Subs is uniquely made.

"Unlike other sub places, we steam our meats and cheeses, releasing a rush of flavors, then stuff a serving that’s way over code on one of our toasted private recipe sub rolls. It’s a winning combination that satisfies ravenous appetites and the value conscious alike."

The menu boasts a variety of hot and cold subs, salads, sides and a kids menu. Click here for the full menu, nutrition information and allergy information

Woburn Patch will have a full story with the local owner and pictures of the new restaurant closer to the opening date. Stay tuned for more information.

What is the average amount that local Fire departments get? Is it only a one time grant? Welcome Firehouse Subs! And can't wait to eat there!

How much of the profits go to the fire departments? Just curious

I think they give 100% of their "tips" and sales of their pickle barrels to the safety fund which then gives money to local firehouses.  The Danvers store just gave the Danvers FD $10,000.
