Here are five things you need to know today:
1) A winner of a Wednesday
According to the National Weather Service, today is going to be another beautiful day. Expect sunshine and temperatures in the mid-70s. We may even have a light breeze later in the day. What a great day to be outside!
2) Boys & Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Club is currently closed, but will reopen after Labor Day. After Sept. 10, parents and kids may re-up their membership to the club. For all of the club's awesome programs, brochures and forms, click here!
3) Event spotlight
Don't forget—tonight is the special neighborhood meeting with Mayor Scott Galvin regarding an athletic field proposal for the Whispering Hill land on the West Side. The meeting will be held at City Hall and starts at 7 p.m.
4) In case you missed it
Police responded to a report of a dead raccoon on a Salem Street property Monday. Was the carcass left there by a neighbor? Or did the little guy die of natural causes? Find out in the police log.
5) Women's movement progresses
On this day in 1914, the Women's Defense Relief Corps was created in Britain. There were already some women's rights organizations in the country, but the WDRC was set up to aid the country during World War I. While some women stayed home and helped fill in for men in factories, others went as far as to serve on the front lines in France and Belgium.
