Here are five things you need to know today:

1) Sunshine: Enough said! The National Weather Service is forecasting a mostly sunny day and temps in the high-40s. Sounds like a nice vacation day to us!

2) Fat Tuesday: Join the Sea Dog Brew Pub for a Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday Mug Club event. The pub has 50 mugs left! Join the club and see Whiskey Tango perform. More information here.

3) Event spotlight: The trivia fun continues, this time at Scoreboard Bar & Grill! Stump Trivia is tonight and starts at 8 p.m.

5) Assassination of a leader: On this day in 1965, Malcolm X was assassinated during a public appearance in Washington Heights, New York. Malcolm X, a follower of the Nation of Islam, became a powerful force in the civil rights movement, but began to preach in ways against the Nation’s beliefs. In 1965, he was shot to death by members of the Nation of Islam while speaking in front of followers of X’s Organization of Afro-American Unity.
