Five Things You Need To Know Today, Feb. 9

First aid class at the Y tonight.

Here are five things you need to know today:

1) A triumphant return: The sun makes a return to the city today with a partly sunny morning and clear afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, we should see sunshine and temperatures in the mid-40s. Expect that to drop to the 20s tonight, though.

2) First aid class: The North Suburban YMCA is holding a first-aid class tonight at 6:30 p.m. Learn how to save a life! Cost is $50 for the session.

3) Event spotlight: It’s Valentine’s Day at the Woburn Public Library Children’s Room—if the building is open today! A Valentine’s Day pre-school party is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. this morning. However, the building has been closed this week due to lack of heat and repairs being made to the boiler system. Call ahead if you’re planning on attending to make sure the building is open!

4) In case you missed it: It was a busy day in Woburn District Court yesterday. One case centered on a 20-year-old Little League coach and martial arts instructor arraigned on child pornography charges, while another case focused on the alleged attempted murder of a Tewksbury woman held against her will in a Woburn home for two days. Read about the stories here and here.

5) Eat my shorts: On this day in 1997, Fox's "The Simpons" became the longest running animated television series, beating out the previous record-holder "The Flintstones." In 2009, the show beat out Gunsmoke for the longest-running American primetime show. Currently "The Simpsons" have been on for 23 seasons and have 498 episodes. There is also a full-length motion picture, a variety of video games and more merchandise than even the biggest fan could handle. Perhaps most fun, Homer Simpsons' signature catchphrase of frustration "Do'h" has been adopted into the English language. Language purists may not like that, but "Don't have a cow, man."
