Five Things You Need To Know Today, June 27

Cherry Fest is today!

Here are five things you need to know today:

1) A day just like yesterday: The National Weather Service says to anticipate a high of 73 degrees today with partly cloudy skies. There's also a chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm.

2) Hmmm, cherries: One of the best things about summer is the ripe crop of cherries available at supermarkets. Go to Whole Foods Market, 400 Cambridge Rd, at 4 p.m. today and find out why everyone raves about their cherries. Numerous examples of how to use the fruit and what to make with cherries will be on display. There will even be a contest for cherry recipes.

3) Event Spotlight: It's Wednesday! That means concerts in the center. Autumn Link will be performing at Jack Marlowe Park courtesy of The Brickyard. Show starts at 6 p.m.

4) In Case You Missed It: A Vermont man charges at Woburn Police and is arrested on several charges, including resisting arrest and assault and battery on three police officers. Full story is here.

5) Newbery Medal starts: On this day in 1922, the first Newbery Medal for Children's Literature was handed out. The American Library Association presented the award for children's book of the year to Hendrik Willem van Loon for his book The Story of Mankind.
