Five Things You Need To Know Today, March 1

Family Reading Night is tonight.

Here are five things you need to know today:

1) Leftovers: We'll have some leftover snow today thanks to last night's winter storm. The National Weather Service expects snow to fall lightly during the day, accumulating another inch or two of the white stuff. The snow should stop around 7 p.m., says the NWS.

2) Playoff hockey: The Woburn Memorial High School boys' hockey team game against St. Peter-Marian in the MIAA North Division I playoff tournament was postponed last night due to weather conditions. The game will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at the O'Brien Rink.

3) Event spotlight: Join Mayor Scott Galvin at the Linscott-Rumford School as he reads to students during Family Reading Night. The fun begins at 6 p.m. Children are invited to wear their pajamas and bring a gently-used book to swap with another child.

4) In case you missed it: Well, they may have caused the accident, but at least they were good citizens. A group of turkeys caused a two-car accident on the West Side in yesterday's police log. But when the officer arrived, the faulty turkeys were still on scene. Maybe watching the outcome of their actions? Read yesterday's log here

5) Salem witch hunt begins: On this day in 1629, Sarah Goode, Sarah Osborne and Tituba, a slave from Barbados, were arrested in Salem Village for practicing witchcraft. Officials began searching for more witches after several "afflicted" residents came forward. The women were later tried and executed for their "crimes," as were 16 others.
