Five Things You Need To Know Today, March 16
Today is Shamrock Pride Day at elementary school.
Here are five things you need to know today:
1) Thunderstruck: Ah, we’ve waited awhile to get that AC/DC reference back into Five Things! Today’s the day, according to the National Weather Service, we’ll see thunder tonight and rain after 5 p.m. The day should be cloudy with temperatures around 50 degrees. But it looks like things will improve this weekend with temperatures in the 60s and 70s and sunshine!
2) Shamrock Pride!: Tomorrow is, of course, St. Patrick’s Day! We’re all a little Irish this time of year, and the Shamrock School is celebrating the holiday and its name today with Shamrock Pride Day. Students are encouraged to wear green and show their school spirit.
3) Event spotlight: Today is your last chance to enter the Boys & Girls’ Club Pot of Gold Raffle. Tickets are $100. The winner will be announced at the annual St. Patrick's Day Social being held on St. Paddy’s Day!
4) In case you missed it: Looks like there could be a new restaurant moving into the old Spuds building on Mack Road. Check it out here.
5) Salem’s native son: On this day in 1850, Nathaniel Hawthorne of Salem published the infamous story of colonial adultery—The Scarlet Letter. The story introduced us to Hester Prynne, forced to wear a scarlet “A” on her chest to symbolize the adultery she guilty of. Hawthorne’s other works include Young Goodman Brown and the House of Seven Gables.
