Five Things You Need to Know Today, Oct. 26

Boston Rock Gym has Ladies Night in honor of breast cancer awareness tonight.

Here are five things you need to know today:

1) Rain: Well, not much else to say except, it’s going to rain today. Expect raindrops sometime after 2 p.m. today, just in time for school dismissal! But, be glad it’s just rain. There may be some snow Thursday night!

2) Route 38 closed: This Sunday is the Lions’ Halloween Parade, the biggest All Hallow’s Eve bash in the state. But the parade means that Route 38 will be closed all the way from the Winchester line to the Route 128 rotary between noon and 4 p.m. Sunday.

3) Event spotlight: The Boston Rock Gym is dedicating a special Ladies Night to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness. The gym will have a discounted price ($6) for ladies between noon and 10 p.m. today and $2 from every admission—male and female—will go the Komen Foundation.

4) In case you missed it: Mayor Scott Galvin spoke with us about the City Solicitor position left vacant due to the passing of John McElhiney, a well-loved and respected lawyer and historian of Woburn. Read about the solicitor position here.

5) A groundball that lives in infamy: On this day in 1986, Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner let a groundball trickle through his legs, allowing the New York Mets to score the winning run in Game 6 of the World Series. The Mets would go on to win the World Series, and Buckner would become known as the “goat” of the Boston Red Sox. But, since the infamous Game 6 fielding error, the Red Sox have won the World Series… And fans have forgiven Buckner.
