Five Things You Need To Know Today, Sept. 13

Today's history fact is one we had never heard before! Did you?

Here are five things you need to know today in Woburn:

1) Event spotlight

Eat out and help a great cause tonight! If you eat at the Tanner Tavern tonight, 25 percent of the bill will go toward the St. Baldrick Foundation, a charity focused on childhood cancer. Head over to Tanner's anytime after 12 p.m. tomorrow, with a copy of the flyer found on Woburn Patch

2) Acoustic nighttime

The Sea Dog Brew Pub is hosting acoustic musicians Debbe Lewis and Matt McKay tonight at 7 p.m. Both have performed widely with popular musicians, including Joe Cocker, Prince, Extreme, the Joe Perry Project and more. Show is free!

3) More great weather!

According to the National Weather Service, we can expect much of the same as yesterday this fine Thursday! Temperatures will rise into the 80s, with clear, sunny skies and a light afternoon wind.

4) In case you missed it

This week marked our first week of Pop Warner coverage. We are thrilled to post the recaps and photos provided by parents. We also want to extend the invitation to other youth sports organizations! Send information to us and we can make sure it gets onto Woburn Patch. Thank you!

5) Did you know...

On this day in 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem "The Defense of Fort McHenry," which would later become our United States' national anthem. The poem was written after Key witnessed an attack during the War of 1812. The song was eventually tied together with the popular English drinking song "To Anacreon in Heaven" by John Stafford Smith. It was adopted as our national anthem in 1931.
