Five Things You Need To Know Today, Sept. 17

New swim team member evaluations tonight at Boys & Girls Club.

Here are five things you need to know today in Woburn:

1) Event spotlight

The Boys and Girls Club of Woburn will hold a swim team evaluation tonight, starting at 6:15 p.m. New swimmers interested in joining the team should attent one evaluation night.

2) WMHS news

The Woburn Memorial High School Club of Social Concern will meet at 2 p.m. in Mr. Morton's room this afternoon. The club focuses on taking part in charity work. Mr. Morton's room is D428.

3) Starting the week off right

According to the National Weather Service, today's weather will be low-key. Some sunshine, some temperatures in the mid-70s... Sounds good! Expect clouds to move in tonight though before showers hit us on Tuesday.

4) In case you missed it

It's that time of the week to check in on last week's Woburn Police news. Click here for our Week in Review, which includes a couple of kids giving someone "the finger," a woman caught stealing lobsters and a woman with an axe. Read it all here.

5) Reading is awesome

On this day in 1996, Oprah Winfrey launched a book club on her nationally-telelvised show. The first book choice was "The Deep End of the Ocean" by Jacquelyn Mitchard. Due to Oprah's popularity, the book club would become a way for publishers to score best-sellers. Over the years, more than 60 books were chosen as club picks, including "East of Eden" by John Steinbeck, "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb and "Tara Road" by Maeve Binchey.
