Hurricane Sandy's Local Impact Expected Monday Morning

There is a high wind watch in effect Monday morning through Monday night.

The latest forecasts show Hurricane Sandy hitting before the morning commute tomorrow, with high wind and flood watches in effect from Monday morning through the night.

The National Weather Service issued the warnings for Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

WHDH's Jeremy Reiner said the worst of Sandy should be from 9 a.m. Monday until 2 a.m. Tuesday. "Within this period is our greatest risk of wind damage/power loss," Reiner wrote on his blog, noting that many towns will experience wind gusts over 40 miles per hour. Coastal cities and towns may see wind gusts between 50-60 mph and even some wind gusts near 70mph out on the Cape and Islands.

Reiner said the speed of the wind isn't as great a concern as the duration of the wind, expected to last over several hours and bring down trees and power lines.

Rainfall looks manageable, Reiner said, with most towns looking to pick up 1 to 3 inches of rain through tomorrow night.

Since power outages are inevitable having a long run time flashlight is a good idea.

Lowes has a 65 hour run time flashlight for under $5.00

I got mine in store. I also got one at Target. You can never have too many flashlights.

Lux, love this! Anyone else got tips? I did hear a good suggestion of freezing water so you can thaw it to drink but also use it to keep food cold in the freezer if you lose power.

Actually I just went out and bought a coleman lantern,, I can't believe how crazy it is already out there! People lining up into the streets to get gasoline, Stop and Shop was jammed... Why didnt everyone get this done yesterday? I guess no one takes it seriously until it's too late. Where I am from we prepare early and seem to deal with it better...
