Retiring Woburn Police Chief Philip Mahoney was feted at an Open House at the police station Thursday afternoon.
After 41 years on the department, Woburn Police Chief Philip Mahoney has retired.
Chief Mahoney was appointed to WPD in 1970. He climbed the ranks, making sergeant in 1976 and lieutenant in 1980. Six years later, in September 1986, Mahoney was appointed Police Chief.
On Thursday, the department held an open house party for the public and officials to say goodbye to Chief Mahoney on his last day at work.
According to the chief, his WPD car is back at the station and completely cleaned out—eight big trash bags later.
