The stores are crowded this time of year with people buying gifts for friends and family. But the students at the Kennedy Middle School are hoping that people will take a moment to buy a gift for a Woburn child in need this Christmas.
Guidance Counselor Rita Robertson is working with students on the "Giving Tree," an annual community service project at the middle school.
"Members of the Kennedy community take a tag from the tree and fulfill the wish of that child," explained Robertson.
"This year, we are anticipating an even greater need and are hopeful for a large community response," added the guidance counselor.
The "Giving Tree" was placed at Kennedy on Nov. 21 and will remain in place until the last tag has been removed.
Unwrapped gifts are due back by Dec. 12 and will be given to principals to distribute on Dec. 19. During that week, Kennedy students will wrap and sort well over 800 gifts during that period, said Robertson.
