A Haverhill man was held without bail after police found him in the Target parking lot carrying a sword Tuesday night.
A Haverhill man was held without bail, after being arrested with a sword in the Target parking lot Tuesday night.
David P. Righini, 27, of 162 S. Pleasant St. in Haverhill, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering a vehicle in the nighttime and larceny over $250, as well as an outstanding warrant.
According to police, the warrant included two assault and battery charges.
Woburn Police officers responded to the Target parking lot at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday night for a report of a man carrying a sword, trying to enter parked cars.
When police arrived, they found Righini standing near several items on the ground, including a sword with a 2-and-a-half-foot blade.
According to police, Righini told officers he had taken some items from a parked car, including an iPad, iPhone and laptop.
Police learned of Righini’s outstanding warrant through a check of the computer system at that time. The Haverhill man was taken into custody and the items, including the sword, were entered into evidence.
According to police, a witness reported seeing Righini “unsheath a long sword and begin studying it,” after trying to enter at least three cars. Police arrived on scene shortly after.
Righini was held without bail after an appearance in Woburn District Court.
