Manzelli Telethon Coming in February
The annual Council of Social Concern's Donald Manzelli Memorial Telethon will be broadcast live next month.
For the fourth year in a row, Woburnites will band together to help the Council of Social Concern through the Don Manzelli Memorial Telethon.
This year's telethon will be held on Feb. 12 from noon to 3 p.m.
But, unlike previous years, the telethon will be without John McElhiney—the beloved host passed away last year.
Kathy Lucero, who hosted with McElhiney in other years, will return, along with Vinnie "The Shoe" Ferlisi. Jim Major will also share hosting duties this year.
The telethon, which raised over $20,000 in its second year, will be broadcast live on RCN on channel 15; Comcast, 22; and Verizon, 45. It will also air in Winchester on Comcast 8 and Verizon 36.
The show will be peppered with visits from local celebrities and local talent.
Donors can make a donation live on cable TV at the studio at Woburn Memorial High School, or by calling a special phone number during telethon hours: 781-995-4178.
The Council for Social Concern was formed in 1969, by a group of concerned citizens to promote neighborliness and to address child care and housing issues, said Mary Laing, the council's director of public relations.
The council serves more than 2,000 people a year, according to Laing. It also serves almost 300 Woburn and Winchester residents through its food pantry.
