New Restaurants Coming To Woburn

City Council approves two new eateries; third in proposal stage.

It's official—Firehouse Subs is opening its third Massachusetts location in Woburn.

The City Council approved a special permit for the national fast food chain at its last meeting, agreeing that the eatery could move into an empty storefront in the Petco building on Commerce Way.

According to city documents, Firehouse Subs "sells made-to-order sandwiches." Generally, customers order a sandwich and wait approximately four to six minutes to be served. Patrons can take their meal out or eat at tables inside. There is no drive-thru option, said Mark Vaughan, the attorney representing Firehouse Subs.

The restaurant sells both lunch and dinner, but no breakfast. The special permit allows the eatery to be open Sunday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Vaughan told city officials that Firehouse Subs donates quite a bit of funding, including customer donations, to local fire departments.

No open date for the restaurant was given, but there are no structural changes planned for the building.

Main Street will also see the opening of a new restaurant soon, at the site of the former Callahan's Deli at 229 Main St.

According to city documents, the eatery will be named "A Dega" and will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

No information on when the restaurant will open, or what will be served, was provided. However, city officials did state that no changes needed to be made to the building.

News broke yesterday that a Dave & Busters may be moving into Woburn on Mishawum Street, at the location of the old train station next to the Northern Bank and Trust.

What do you think of these new developments? Will you visit these new restaurants? Is more business good or bad for the city? Why do you feel that way? Tell us in the comments!

Oh thank goodness! We have such a shortage of sub shops in Woburn. And it's a good thing we're getting something useful like a grown-up arcade instead of a train station at the train station.

I'd rather see more businesses than more condos, townhouses, and low-income housing any day of the week. Both the sub shop and Dave & Buster's are in commercial sections of town so I have no issues. Plus, thriving businesses help keep our tax rates low.

Wait Anderson isn't a train station anymore wow that changed over night and not many sub shops up that far on commerce way plus it's fire house subs at least they donate some proceeds to local fire departments. Not to mention all of these properties mentioned have been vacant so why not have something in there, overall good job Woburn change is good.

yes the run down train station with no parking there is a reason why anderson regional transportation center was built and it takes the place of the bus station and that old train stop. im not sure if this was the thought but i think they combined them so that people could take the bus to the train station or opposite train to bus station so people didnt have to walk from the old stop to the old bus station and alot more added parking.

I'm excited for Dave & Busters! That station has been sitting empty for years! It will create jobs in Woburn and be a fun spot to check out. I can't wait to go! :-)

Dawn/Michael,
I don't know how long you've lived in Woburn or how often you travel to/from the old transportation station but the traffic around there is horrendous, especially at rush hour. Too bad Northern Bank & Trust didn't do their homework before they bought the property... We could use more elderly housing in Woburn but you probably wouldn't want to support your elderly neighbors either.

@ Anne; We have pleanty of "elderly housing" it's just that our Govt chooses to fill it with able body adults who in many cases are not even from our State and/or our country.

The last thing this town needs is more affordable housing. What we need is something to bring Woburn into a place where outside people want to come and contribute. New exciting business will bring more to this town than a tax drain.

Wobbity Woo is 100% correct. I fail to see any benifit of having housing that supports those who conrtibute nothing and are a burden to those of us who pay taxes. I'll be supporting almost any business that is looking to locate to our city.
