Woburn Fire Ladder 1 was the first on scene of the fire, which started on the second floor and spread to the third. Although firefighters from Burlington, Winchester and Lexington also responded, Fire Chief Paul Tortolano said that Woburn Fire Ladder 1 knocked down the fire using a hand line from a nearby hydrant.

“They did a great job,” said the fire chief. “Cold weather like this always plays a factor, water can quickly turn to ice.”

But the home’s position on an incline helped firefighters Wednesday, Chief Tortolano added.

Investigators are looking into how the fire started Wednesday afternoon.

All residents of the two-family home, as well as two pets, are accounted for and uninjured, said Chief Tortolano.

Although the house is not a total loss, the fire chief estimated that damages are approximately $75,000 to $100,000.
