The city's new war-time veterans monument is being built downtown this week. The memorial's panels were constructed earlier in Vermont and were brought to Woburn Tuesday.

The memorial will stand on the Common area across from City Hall, where the old memorial once stood. The new memorial will have the names of all war-time veterans from all wars.

The Flaherty family paid for the memorial, donating it to the city.

Photos above include John Flaherty visiting the construction site, as well as some of the memorial panels.

The Friends of Woburn Veterans' Committee is planning a large dedication of the memorial on Nov. 11. In addition to the dedication during the city's Veterans' Day event, the committee will also hold a celebratory picnic outside City Hall.

The Friends of Woburn Veterans' Committee is made up of: Larry Guiseppe, George Poole, Jennifer Murray, Mike McGann, Jack Gilgun, Jerry Buckley, Domenic Negri, Jerry Langone, Mike McDonough, James McLaughlin, Tom Quigley, Charles Culhane, Al DePaoli, Chris Wackrow, Greg Post, Tom Martin, Richard Gately, Kathy Lucero, John Flaherty and Bob Shure.

Does anyone know if the names from the old wall were saved? I would like to get my Uncle's name if possible.

All of the name plates, that were on the original WWII Memorial on the common, are at the veteran's office and anyone is more than welcome to come down and go through the names and take them. The Veteran's Office is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9 AM to 4:30 PM; Thursday 9 AM to 7 PM and Friday 9 AM to 1 PM. (Note that the condition of the name plates is varying - most are in tact, some are not)
