The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

Featured Call of the Day:

Nov. 6 – At 8:16 p.m., a police officer walking through the City Hall parking lot observed a woman crying and very upset. The officer spoke to the woman, who said that her cat was missing from her apartment. The woman told police that she believed her landlord or property manager let the cat out of her building. The officer forwarded the information to the animal control officer. The officer reported he searched the area of City Hall and downtown Woburn, but did not find the cat. The pet is described as a gray and white cat with no identifiable marks or tags. [Editor’s note: An update to this report, the cat was found on the common early Wednesday morning by the owner.]

The teens wanted a reward for doing a good deed? The person was unfortunate to have lost his dog; but fortunate it was found safe. How about picking up their teeth with broken fingers for the teens. Why can't someone just do good without their hands out?

I bet you don't tip waitstaff either, because they already get a salary from the money you paid for your food. No need to say "Thank you" either.

I don't know if the men offered a reward (not sure how the teens found the men -- sounds like there is more to the story) but that's etiquette, someone finds something of value of yours and returns it, you give them a gift in thanks. This makes people more likely to return things they find in the future. (But see Seven Psychopaths. No really, go see it, it's an interesting movie.)

Why can't it be just a thank you? Etiquette? Are you kidding me? Maybe the etiquette school where your mother sent you teaches to be a greedy, I'm taking my ball and going home, only child, dirt bag. In fact, I tip very well and say thank you often. Yeah, David, if a reward is the only thing that makes people return things in the future, we are in trouble. That's like saying lengthy prison sentences is a deterrent to crime and reduces recidivism. It's people like you that make good deeds a thing of the past.
