Recycle Your Appliances Saturday
This is the final recycling event before the fall.
Did your spring cleaning session leave you with a lot of stuff you don't need? If you want to get rid of that stuff completely, there is an appliance recycling collection this weekend.
The collection will be held tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spence Farm.
Former Woburn alderman Paul Medeiros coordinated the collection with a Massachusetts company that will collect appliances at drop-off sites set up throughout the city at various times throughout the year. These coordinated pick-ups will give residents the opportunity to recycle appliances at a cheaper rate, while benefiting local organizations.
Saturday’s collection will benefit the Woburn Residents' Environmental Network (WREN) and its programs and projects. Also, a portion of the proceeds from these collections are used for a scholarship fund for a Woburn High School graduating senior who will be continuing their education in the field of environmental education.
The collection is open to all residents, not just Woburnites.
Over the last three years, more than $100,000 has been raised for local organizations and the WMHS scholarship.
Collection prices are:
- Monitor/Laptop: $10
- Television: $20
- Projection TV: $25
- Refrigerator: $10
- Water Cooler: $10
- Air Conditioner: $10
- Freezer: $10
- Dehumidifier: $10
- Stove/Washer/Dryer: $10
- Water Heater: $10
- Dishwasher: $10
If you prefer to recycle items for reuse or salvage, you can bring it to Spence Farm on Saturday. For $1 each, the collection will accept:
- electronic office equipment (such as calculators, typewriters, fax/copy machines, printers, telephones)
- consumer electronics (such as cameras, video/audio/DVD/VCR, microwaves and sink disposal units)
- TVs are not accepted for reuse at $1 each.
The following items will also be accepted for reuse for a "voluntary" donation:
- computer parts and accessories
- cell phones
- video games
- parts and accessories or plugs and wires,
- VHS tapes
If you don't have your home cleaned out yet, you can attend the next recycling event, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at Spence Farm from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
