Relay for Life Raises Thousands

Last weekend's American Cancer Society event will benefit cancer research.

For 12 hours, hundreds of Woburnites walked in the Relay for Life, raising thousands for the American Cancer Society.

According to the Woburn Relay's official website, 294 people walked in the Woburn event, held last weekend. Of those 294 people, 29 teams were registered.

During the 12-hour event, Woburn walkers raised $52,413.

Team Cruising for a Cure raised the most money with almost $10,000 as a group ($9,135). Of that team, Christy Nickerson was the top fundraiser—and the top for the whole city!—with $2,812 raised.

Cruising for a Cure ran in memory of Karen Canada, who died earlier this year. The team also walked in honor of Kathy Gibbons, Beverly Dwyer and Chris Walsh, who are all battling illness.
