Rep. Dwyer Calls MBTA Cuts 'Unacceptable'

A grassroots effort to keep the intact has blossomed on Facebook.

The group, called Keep Woburn MBTA Service, sprouted after the state announced that , as well as weekend service on the commuter rail. 

Although several hearings on the T cuts will be held in various locations throughout the state, Woburn resident and MBTA Advisory Board member Paul Regan will meet with Mayor Scott Galvin, State Rep. Jim Dwyer, City Councillors and concerned residents on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

Rep. Jim Dwyer said Monday that he is opposed to the cuts and is talking with other Woburn legislators.

"Please know that I am in strong opposition to the rate hikes and the cuts in services," said Rep. Dwyer.  "The negative impacts that will incur strongly outweigh any benefit that the MBTA would gain by instituting this plan."

Rep. Dwyer said he had already contacted the executive director of the MBTA Advisory Board regarding his stance on the service cuts.

"These changes are unacceptable," Rep. Dwyer said.
