For years, North Woburn residents have heard of the 40B housing project nicknamed "The Ledges." And for months, residents and officials have railed against it, saying that building it would cause turmoil for the city.

The project would have housing—25 percent of it affordable—which meant that it could circumvent some zoning laws according to state law. But the Ledges project was going to dig into the "Woburn Quarry," right near residents with asthma and other extenuating circumstances.

As we revealed in today's 5T column, the city's Zoning Board of Appeals denied the developer's request this week. The Ledges decision will likely be appealed by the developer in state court.
