From Teens to Toddlers: Important June School Dates
Last day of school is June 19, a Tuesday.
For members of the Woburn Memorial High School Class of 2012, the school year—and their academic careers in Woburn—will formally end this coming Sunday, June 3, with graduation.
The ceremony starts at 2 p.m. It’s held at Connolly Memorial Stadium at the high school. Seating is open; tickets are not required. In case of rain Sunday, graduation will be rescheduled to Monday at 6 p.m.
Class members have been busy with end-of-school and graduation-related activities.
They’ve received their yearbooks; been recognized for their academic and athletic achievements; attended the senior prom this past Thursday night at the Danversport Yacht Club. The senior cook-out is coming up. They rehearse for graduation.
The class donated money to help restore the original 1906 archway from the former Woburn High School building.
Sunday night, after graduation, they’re invited to spend the night at the all-night party at the Woburn Country Club.
Last day of school for all other students
For all other students in city schools, the last day of school is June 19, a Tuesday. High school students will be dismissed at 11 a.m., middle schoolers, at 11:30 and elementary students at noon, according to the school department website.
Before that, students will mark the end of the school year with field days and special events, like an end-of-the-year cookout at the Wyman Elementary School and the traditional “Dunk the Principal” at the Shamrock Elementary School.
“Get ready” morning for soon-to-be kindergarteners
Not everyone is focused on the end of the school year.
A new group of students will start their school careers in Woburn this coming fall.
They’re invited to a “get ready” morning at their school on June 13, a Wednesday. Parents who registered their soon-to-be kindergarteners will receive a notice with the details. The exact time, for example, varies from elementary school to elementary school.
Students will meet their teachers, get acquainted with their classrooms and tour their schools.
Parents who have not yet registered their child for kindergarten in the fall should call their neighborhood school.
Students who are finishing kindergarten this year won’t be in school on June 13. They’ll have the day off because it’s an elementary school early release day.
