Woburn Police Capt. Richard Kelley is sworn in as Interim Chief Tuesday, June 21.

Although Woburn Police Chief Phil Mahoney will still serve as the head of WPD until July 1, the city officially welcomed Interim Chief Richard Kelley Tuesday night.

City Clerk Bill Campbell swore-in Chief Kelley, a Woburn Police veteran who joined the force as a reserve officer in 1977, in the packed City Hall Chambers June 21. Many of the city's police officers were in attendance in support of Chief Kelley.

Both Chief Mahoney and Chief Kelley received standing ovations from the crowd during the brief ceremony.
