Hurricane Sandy has dominated this week's news. But how did it compare to last year's storm: worse or not quite as bad?
As we come out on the other side of Hurricane Sandy's rain- and wind-lashing of New England yesterday, many of us are still enduring power outages. And in some cases, downed trees and wires.
The storm came a year after the so-called 'Snowtober' storm left many Massachusetts communities without power. So which storm do you think was worse – Sandy or Snowtober?

In the Silver Hill Neighborhood, this storm was worse. More trees down and more power lines down from uprooted trees.

Not for me! Last October was far worse. We had no power for 5 days. And it was cold!

Power out in the badlands of White Ave. for 13 hours. Neighbors on Stone Root Road never lost power!

Last year was worse; snow and cold made things much more difficult.

Last year's was much worse for us. I don't think we got as much warning that their might be power problems and it was very cold. This time, we escaped with only minor flickering of lights. Of course, had the neighbor's tree fallen in the other direction, I might be checking into the Marriott again.

we cant say, until we get the power back in North Sudbury- lost around 3:20PM Monday. We were in Westborough during Irene and the blackout was about 30 hours.

Snowtober was so much worse! We had deep snow, electric, no heat(freezing cold out) and a birthday sleep over with 8 boys. With Sandy we were the lucky ones with electricity the whole time and it was very warm out.

Last year was definitely worse for me. Without power to pump hot water, I suffered through a few cold nights and cold showers. Nothing of the sort this time. Power remained on, the only casualty was Comcast internet.

While this year was worse for me personally, overall the snowstorm was worse. Snow stinks. Power outages when its in the 60's isnt so bad.

We lost branches and power last time. This time we lost 12 trees but kept power. However, I think that Snowtober was a useful exercise for the utilities and for first responders, and that's why things are not as bad as they might have been this time.
Please keep a prayer in your heart for all the people in NY and NJ who will be answering a resounding yes to this question. Remember those who jumped out of helicopters to rescue those sailors, those who carried babies down 15 flights of stairs while ventilating them, those who are still working hard, those who are stranded by sewage-laced flood waters, and thank your lucky stars; it is a relatively minor inconvenience to be without power for a day or two.
