When Is Trick Or Treating in Woburn?
Is there a set time? What about rain? You've asked, now Patch Answers!
In this week's You Ask, Patch Answers column, we tackle a reader's question on Halloween Trick or Treating.
This will be the first year that we will be taking our daughter out trick-or-treating (in Woburn), and I wanted to know if you could tell me if Woburn would re-schedule trick-or-treating due to inclement weather? I was also wondering if Woburn had set hours for trick-or treating.
Well, we checked in with both Woburn Police Chief Robert Ferullo and Mayor Scott Galvin. Both had the same, simple answer:
Trick or treating for kids is Oct. 31. And if it rains? It rains. Same for snow! So get ready for whatever Mother Nature might hit us with, trick or treating will be held no matter what on Wednesday.
As for a set, scheduled time, there is none in Woburn. However, many parents like to go early while it's still light out.
If you'd rather stay indoors, the Woburn Mall is offering Trick or Treating from 5 to 7 p.m.

Wow, really? I mean, we're not talking about a cute little rainstorm this week, are we. We're talking possible hurricane. Y'know... downed trees & power lines, wind-borne debris. This ain't no NFL game, Mr. Mayor and Officer Police Chief. It's little bitty munchie monsters wandering the streets of Woburn. I kinda, sorta think this is a public safety issue.
Oh well, if it turns out to be a hurricane and the power goes out, there will be no lights on to indicate we're participating in the Halloween festivities. We can "trick or treat" at all our interior doorways with the candy we bought for the neighbor kids. There, problem solved!

We will be in contact with Chief Ferullo and Mayor Galvin throughout the storm, so if this hurricane does hit and lasts longer than expected, we can follow-up on this question. Like Melisa said, we asked both men about the possibility of rain or snow storms - not hurricanes! :)
If anything changes, we will publicize it here on the site and on social media and get the word out to everyone! I promise! :)

Growing up in New England I had never heard of postponing Halloween. If it snowed, you bundled up, if it down poured you wore a rain coat. If it was really bad, you did a quick lap around the neighborhood and went back home.
Ya know, little life lessons in dealing with adversity....

Thanks Danielle for answering my question :-)
Of course by inclement weather, I was refering to cases like the first poster mentioned. What prompted my curiosity was that a family member from another town had their trick-or-treating postponed last year due to power outages from the snow, thus making it unsafe for small children and their families to walk around outside at night.

Coming from Alabama, we never had that problem, But I can see why there are some concerns, You have some of the darkest streets I have ever seen, A little rain (or snow I guess) won't hurt a little kid on the quest for candy, but walking these streets in a storm could be another story.

It's called parenting. If you think you and your child will be "unsafe" then don't venture out. You don't need a Mayor or Woburn PD to tell you otherwise. Halloween is October 31st and should always remain so. If we have a blizzard on Dec 25th will we be asking Santa to postpone Christmas?

It amazes me how extremely out of context a simple and innocent yes or no question can be taken, or how quickly people will judge other parents. Obviously any parent with common sense wouldn't venture out in dangerous weather.
