According to the document, which was presented to the City Council, most of the highest-paid employees are police officers, with firefighters second. Public schools, City Hall, Department of Public Works and Retirement round out the list.
Gross salary, as listed above, includes an employee's base salary, plus any bonuses, overtime or paid incentives he or she might be entitled to through contracts. For a detailed explanation, records are available at City Hall. Investigations into the shootings of Officer John "Jack" Maguire and Officer Bob DeNapoli are included in the WPD gross salaries.
A percentage break-down of the Top 100, and a legend on how to read the color-coded document, is here:
| Department | Percentage of Top 100 | Color |
| Police | 57% | Blue |
| Fire | 23% | Red |
| Schools | 12% | Yellow |
| City Hall | 5% | Green |
| DPW | 2% | Orange |
| Retirement | 1% | White |

Just to be fair, the percentages are based on the top 100, but we're looking at the top 200. So the fact is that 43% of the top 200 are from Schools, where they won't work 1 minute more than the contract requires them to work, for 10 months of the year and don't risk their lives), and 33% are from police where they work 40+ hours/week for 12 months of the year and do risk their lives...
And yet the politicians tell us that, in order to improve our kid's education, we need to spend more money on teachers...

And how else to do you suggest improving education without highly skilled and well-paid educators? Osmosis?

Let's be fair here...how many times have you driven by a school parking lot and seen it completely empty at 2:50 when the teacher's contracted time is over?! Teachers bring work home at night , weekends and vacations to prepare. If you went and asked every teacher if they had another job to help with their families finances I bet majority would say yes.
Also, we are talking about 200 indivduals who have choosen their careers and done what they had to, to get where they are. Why should we attack them? Maybe we should write everyones name down and how much they make and then we can start asking why aren't people working more?
Lastly, no one told you, you couldn't be a teacher....

Wow, you actually have the nerve to bash teachers?!? From what I recall most teachers do stay past the time they are supposed to. That's just a low blow. Teachers work hard to educate the youth. I think it's safe to assume that you aren't one!

Teachers are not the problem here it's the ones who got hired after they said a hiring freeze and then hired all the extras. When good men were let go. Now is that fair. Think not ?

Teachers work extra hours. Just because they are not at school they do things at home like
Preparing for the next day and week they also grade papers and do plenty of research to better educate your children
Look into how much more the people on the list make
Police and firemen have also chosen the profession
Teachers have always been a target where would you be without them
Give your head a snap and look at the whole picture

Yes Harrold as we get older. I see the salaries but do they include the benefit package. I don't think they do. This could be $25,00-$30,00.00 more added to their salaries.

I wish they didn't publish this information. I understand they are employees paid by the public and the public has a right to know where their money is spent but I believe the information should be provided upon request. This way it is nothing more than gossip fodder. And no, no one in my family is employed by the city.

You know pat that is a very good question where does the money go and what do they do to earn it. Ask corner office. Maybe we have a right to know. And maybe that's where answer can be found.

COX, JAN $87,146.91
This was her base pay for fiscal year 2011 budget. Where did the current salary of $77,870.45 come from? Probably just a typo from the HRD. Hmmmm??

When it comes to Police, Fire, and Teachers, I don't question it at all. They work hard and the service they provide is top quality and much needed. As for administration, the Creens, The Cox's etc etc... overpaid, almost all have assistants. Some have assistants to the assistants, A good house cleaning is in order.
