Woburn Man Named USA Hockey Intern
Will begin communications job in June.
A Woburn man will work with USA Hockey in June, according to the national hockey organization.
USA Hockey announced that Brian Smith of Woburn is the recipient of the 2012-2013 Brian Fishman Internship. Smith will work in the communications department at USA Hockey's national office in Colorado Springs, Colo., beginning in June.
According to USA Hockey, the Fishman Internship is awarded to a college graduate pursuing a career in athletic communications. Smith will graduate from Boston College later this month.
Brian Fishman was the manager of communications and marketing for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. He died unexpectedly on Jan. 7, 1999, at age 28. The internship was dedicated to Fishman shortly after.
"Being selected for this internship is a tremendous honor and I sincerely thank the Fishman family and USA Hockey for providing me with this amazing opportunity," said Smith. “I hope that my passion and love for hockey will allow me to carry on Brian’s legacy for years to come, striving to work with the same enthusiasm, integrity and dedication to the sport that Brian displayed.”
Smith is expected to work on several communication projects, event promotions and publishing initiatives, including USA Hockey Magazine. He is currently working for the Boston Bruins as a communications intern and member of the game night staff.
Previously, the Woburn native also worked for the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer, working on projects involving U.S. soccer and Manchester United of the English Premier League.
