Moving Out Monday: Home Updates Before You Sell

When you start the home selling process, there are updates that you can make to make your home more attractive to potential buyers. Dated fixtures and features can be turn-offs for homebuyers. The first update you can make that is probably the quickest of the bunch is to swap out outdated brass fixtures. Today’s trends for fixtures are oil-rubbed bronzed finishes or satin-nickel. The quick fix for this is to check out places liked Home Depot or Lowe’s where you can find affordable fixture options that are simple and DIY.

Next update for the home before you sell may be a little e too extensive or pricy for some sellers. Hardwood floors are blowing away carpeted floors nowadays. Carpeting can show dirt and stains and can be a turnoff for buyers. If you cannot afford to switch the carpets to hardwood, have the carpets professionally cleaned before showing the home. If you are willing to have the carpets switched out focus on the first floor of the home.

A last turnoff for homebuyers is the outdated popcorn ceilings. This is the lengthiest fix in the home. Speckled ceilings attract dirt and dust mites and can be nearly impossible to paint. Removing the popcorn ceilings are very messy because they need to be scraped off then repaired. This removal a profitable upgrade for sellers. If your home was built before 1980s, it may be necessary to test the ceiling for asbestos. If you are considering this update, definitely get the help of a professional.

Being involved in the moving business, I encounter stories about moving – the do’s and don’t’s of it. There is always a classic case of improper planning of what to do with your old place. It is always about the new household, what you want for it, but you sometimes overlook the old home. It is best to have it rented or have it sold, rather than keep two places at one time. It would be very costly. Planning on what to do about the old place is also as important of your new place. http://www.davconrelo.com
