Sholl of Tewksbury recognized for 20 years at Cummings Properties

Cummings Properties, a local commercial real estate firm, recently held a major event at the Hilton Boston/Woburn for more than 300 employees and guests. This annual affair recognizes staff members celebrating milestone anniversaries with the Woburn-based company.

Among the 2013 honorees was Tewksbury resident John Sholl, who was celebrated for 20 years of dedicated service. Sholl began his career with the Company as a carpenter, after serving as a member of the Iron Workers Union. He soon transferred to the plumbing crew, where he went on to become a licensed plumber.

Sholl has also served on Cummings Properties “Snow Team” for many years. With a fleet of more than 60 snow-fighting vehicles, Sholl and his teammates sometimes work through the night, clearing the Company’s many parking lots during inclement winter weather.

Mike Sheehy, Cummings Properties’ field division manager, noted that Sholl contributed his plumbing skills and all-around construction knowledge to the 2008 construction of the highly visible TradeCenter 128 on I-95 in Woburn.

“In fact, John has played an integral role in almost all of the Company’s major projects in the last 20 years,” said Sheehy.

He added, “John also acts as a mentor for many of the younger trade workers. It is evident that he enjoys advising his fellow colleagues, and watching them achieve their goals.”

Sholl was presented with a designer watch in recognition of his landmark anniversary. In addition to the awards given to four 20-year employees, Cummings Properties presented commemorative clocks to eight employees celebrating 10th anniversaries.

Sholl and his wife, Kathy, have two grown children. For many years, he has volunteered as a coach in the Challenger Baseball League for mentally and physically challenged children in Billerica.

Since its founding in 1969, Cummings Properties has frequently promoted from within and has reportedly never had a layoff. With a portfolio of 10 million square feet of commercial space in the greater Boston area, the firm currently has a staff of more than 350 from a variety of disciplines, including architecture, engineering, construction, sales, graphic design, accounting, and legal. It employs more than 200 building trades and mechanics of all sorts.
