Showers and Thunderstorms Likely This Morning

Five things to know today.

Today is Friday, August 9. Here are five things to know:

1) Showers and thunderstorms possible

Though it was wrong about yesterday's chance of storms we'll see if the National Weather Service has it right about today. The service is saying that showers and thunderstorms are likely before 11 a.m. this morning and possible this afternoon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 79. Chance of showers and storms tonight with a low around 66.

2) Library summer hours

In the mood for a good book for the weekend? Remember that the Woburn Public Library is closing on Saturdays for the summer. Better go today if you want a new read.

3) Student vaccinations

A reminder to parents that students need to be vaccinated before the start of the school year. Click here for more information on vaccinations and Woburn's policies related to the schools.

4) Candidate debate

In case you missed it, there will be an online debate featuring the candidates for Markey's former seat. The five announced candidates – Belmont's State Sen. Will Brownsberger, State Sen. Katherine Clark, Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, State Rep. Carl Sciortino and State Sen. Karen Spilka – have agreed to participate in this first-of-its-kind open debate that will be broadcast live online at 11 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 10.
