Special Education: We want to hear your thoughts

Share your ideas and some snacks next Tuesday, July 30th at 6:30pm at the Sea Dog in Woburn!

The Woburn Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is gathering this Tuesday, July 30th at the Sea Dog to discuss and respond to a report about Woburn Public Schools Special Education Department and services.

In a regularly scheduled review by the State of Massachusetts, the department was found to be out of compliance in 19 areas in the most recent report compared to only 4 areas in 2006.

The most recent review was conducted in 2012 with the report issued in 2013.

The Woburn SEPAC wants to hear from families of special education students about these issues.

Actually, so does the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education which told one parent they not only welcome family feedback, they request it.

Specifically, they would like a response from families regarding the findings in their 2012 Coordinated Program Review (CPR) report as well as the Woburn Special Education Department's response as found in their Corrective Action Plan (CAP).

"We'll keep it simpler than it sounds, we promise," quips Woburn SEPAC's Interim Coordinator, Meghan Chapman. "Plus, there will be snacks and friendly faces."

Families are requested to RSVP using the information on the SEPAC website www.WoburnPAC.org.

The meeting will be in a private room at the Sea Dog, 230 Mishawum Avenue, starting with time to get to know one another at 6:30pm on Tuesday, July 30th.

If you cannot attend but would like to provide your feedback, the SEPAC is eager to hear from you. Again, you can use the contact information on the SEPAC website.

Our thanks to Woburn parent and special education advocate Laurel Collins for coordinating this event and to the Sea Dog for donating the meeting space and snacks.
