Woburn Couple Finds Love amid the Cobwebs

Mat Davis and Jayna Lloyd of Woburn take their love of Halloween as seriously as their love for each other. The couple made their first visit to Spookyworld, the world’s top haunted attraction now located in Litchfield, New Hampshire eight years ago and have been providing chills to thousands of thrill seekers ever since.

Davis performs under a grotesque layer of ghoulish make up which is applied by Lloyd, who is a portrait photographer by day and creator of creatures by night. She specializes in UV make-up which, when seen under a black light and with 3-D glasses, produces a frightening effect and triggers a terrifying reaction from spectators.

“The makeup literally pops off the actors face,” Lloyd explained. She perfected her craft by practicing on her boyfriend Mat who’s spent some long hours in the makeup chair. Davis also spends long hours creating his own character, an artistic freedom that Spookyworld encourages of all its actors. His transformation starts a full year before each Halloween when Davis begins designing his costume. In late July, he also helps build the elaborate set pieces called “haunts”, sometimes putting in 18-hour shifts to transform the backwoods of Litchfield into a living nightmare. It’s the thrill of the haunt that keeps the couple coming back each season.

“We’ve done some amazing things in this industry and we’re only getting started!” Davis exclaimed.
