Woburn Public Media Center awards scholarships to two Woburn Memorial High School students

WOBURN, MA –– Woburn Public Media Center has awarded two scholarships to two students who have stood out among all other media students in their class.  Each will received $500.

John MacFarlane has taken the Television Production classes and now writes and produces his own shows and skits with other students.  He has written and produced a play called “Something Like That” which was performed at WMHS earlier this year.  John also directed and acted in the highly acclaimed play that has won a Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild All Star Cast and Crew Award.  John has been involved with drama festival plays, WMHS musicals, and concert choir.  John will be studying film, writing or theater at Salem State College next fall.

Rane Newcomb excelled in the Television Production I and II classes and has been involved with the high school daily Morning Announcements broadcast which is viewed each morning by students and teachers at WMHS via local access cable.  The broadcast originates from the Woburn Public Media Center studio located on the second floor of the high school.   Rane has also volunteered to be the sports reporter for the weekly show “Happenings Around Woburn” and has received an academic award for Excellence in the Arts.  Rane has been accepted to Endicott College and will be studying Broadcast Journalism there in the fall.
