TELL US: Who Makes a Difference in Woburn?

Help showcase people who are doing great things in your community with our new feature, Count Us In.

Your neighbor who volunteers at the library, your child’s bus driver, and the Little League coach in your community may not seem to have much in common at first glance.

But Patch’s new initiative, Count Us In, aspires to bring together all Good Samaritans by highlighting residents who are exemplary at making your community a more positive place.

Whether its your neighbor who always gives to the Woburn Council of Social Concern by buying extra food at Stop & Shop, or former alderman Paul Medeiros, who spends countless hours volunteering at Spence Farm, we want to hear about them. Local "celebrities" along with quiet residents, you all pitch in and we think you deserve some credit!

Partnering with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC), Count Us In aims to illustrate HPHC's values. They believe that “amazing things happen when people work together” and that is why we want to share stories about just that.

If you know someone who exemplifies being a good neighbor, volunteer or teacher—or someone who has simply helped the community in an inspiring way—please tell us about it in the comments section below. Your local editor will keep an eye on the conversation and will be writing articles about all of the amazing people and stories you share.

We welcome all great stories coming from great people in the community.

Dan Perenick is one of Woburn's finest. He is the Boy Scout leader for Troop 519. Dan works very hard with his Boy Scouts. Due to his tireless devotion, the troop has swelled to 22 Scouts. This summer, Dan secured a plot at the Community Garden. His troop raised a variety of fruits and vegetables which were then all donated to Woburn Council of Social Concern. In addition, Dan takes his Scouts to the Conservation Land and rebuilds fences and plants trees. Dan is a wonderful, caring man.

Mike Mulrenan! Gracious but he's everywhere! He's one of Woburn's brave firefighters. He supports every local education event: elementary, middle and high school. In the past months I've seen him helping at an ice cream social, Veteran's Day program, special education college fair, Boys & Girls Club toddler event, and endless school committee meetings...just to name a few. He's committed to the kids. He's the guy who gets called when an event needs a dunk tank...or someone to be dunked. And he gets it done...with a smile. No wonder he was Boys & Girls Club's "Boy of the Year 1975!"
