Officer Jack Maguire: We Will Remember You

It has been three years since Woburn Police Officer Jack Maguire was killed in the line of the duty.

As a light snow fell this afternoon, I drove home along Route 128 past the Washington Street exit. I couldn't help but turn to look toward Kohl's. It's been three years, but my eyes always look in that direction. Today, more than any other day, the tears came.

Three years ago tonight... The snow was falling a lot heavier than it is today. The roads a lot quieter. A couple of guys thought they'd hold up Kohl's jewelry counter in the middle of a blizzard and take some diamonds. And the Woburn Police stopped them cold in their tracks.

Officer Jack Maguire paid with his life

I heard it all on the scanner as I covered the blizzard for the newly-born Woburn Patch site. I shifted from telling readers what roads were being plowed and what youth hockey games were cancelled, to where Officer Maguire was being transported for treatment... and when he was pronounced dead.

We will never forget you, Officer Maguire, and how you stopped those men with their horrible intentions from getting into a residential neighborhood filled with families. Thank you for keeping us safe that night and every night of your career. You'll always be in our hearts.
