Another Store Set to Leave Newton's Atrium Mall

What do you think should be done with the Chestnut Hill property?

will say goodbye to another storefront this week.

Gap and GapKids will close its doors after business ends on Saturday, the Boston Globe reported yesterday, leaving just 14 stores in the Chestnut Hill property.

The four-floor Atrium Mall is no stranger to empty storefronts--just last month, Creatoyivity and Pottery Barn Kids also exited the shopping center

The Atrium will see even more empty storefronts in the coming months as JCrew and Ross-Simons also plan to leave. Boston Business Journal reported earlier this year that the two stores will be moving across the street to  sometime this spring.

Williams-Sonoma, Borders, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Tiffany & Co. are among other stores that have moved out of the Atrium in recent years.

Simon Property Group, which owns both the Atrium and Mall at Chestnut Hill, . This is the second time in two years the Atrium has been placed on the selling block.

What do you think should be done to revitalize the Atrium Mall? Tell us in the comments below!

No more apartments. That adds too many kids to our bursting school system!

Keirnan--I don't believe so, unless I missed something. I think that may have been one of the proposals on the table back on 2010 when it was up for sale then. I haven't heard of any recent proposals with office space.

Connect it with an overpass to chestnut hill mall and put in LL Bean and restaurants ...a target would be nice too, but not the right layout for it.
